Calligram

 



I choose a pencil for my calligram because my aspirational career paths and hobbies center around writing. I use it to express myself creatively, connect with others, and share my ideas. I also thought it was fitting because the calligram consisted of a note to my future self. To create this design. I put an image of a pencil as the background, and traced it with shapes and lines. Then I used the pen tool to place the text on the lines and in the shapes. It was fairly simple to create.


Letter to future self:

Dear Future Self,

I hope I’ve accomplished everything I set out to do and are truly happy. I’m excited to see what I will do and where life takes me. Ideally, I’d like to spend a few years in Tampa after graduation, and maybe live in a few different cities afterwards. I’m going to be super surprised and disappointed if I end up back in the Northeast. In twenty years, I hope to have a few kids and a loving husband, as well as a nice house in an interesting area. Right now, I’m a junior in college, majoring in communication and double minoring in public relations and journalism. I’m not sure exactly what I want to do yet, but I would love to either work in nonprofit public relations or broadcast journalism. I’m still unsure whether I will go to graduate school or not. I hope I’m still able to visit with my mom, dad and brother once in a while. I also hope I’m still super close with my friends from Maryland – I can’t believe this fall will mark the ten-year anniversary of us being friends! I also hope I’m still close with Kristen, Jess and Emma. I think Jess and Emma are going to stay in Tampa for a bit like me, but Kristen is thinking of living in New York City after college. I just came back from Miami where I visited my boyfriend Alex! It was a lot of fun, and I hope to visit again soon. I’ve only been dating him for a little over a month, but I love him so much and he makes me really happy. One of my goals is to travel more. It’s 2022, and I haven’t been able to take a trip outside the country since 2019 because of coronavirus. Anyways, I just hope you’re happy with your career and life choices, and are staying safe and healthy.

BW to Color

For my BW to color project, I wanted to use a lot of bright colors and pastels to fill in my photo. I liked using odd colors like purple and green for my hair because I thought it would look very out-of-the-box and cooler. The hair was the most difficult part to color in because it was windy that day and I had a lot of flyaways I needed to capture. Something I think I could've done a little better on is the background – If I had more time I would've chosen to make all of the flowers different colors.

Somewhere

For my Somewhere project, I wanted to place myself in a scene from Mean Girls. Although I've seen the movie many times, it's not my all-time favorite movie, but I chose it because the wardrobe for this movie is so iconic, and I wanted to try and emulate it. To create this scene, I first chose the mall scene from the movie to place myself in. I chose this because all of the characters are facing the camera, with little overlap between them, so I thought it would be the easiest to make it look realistic. On photoshop, I first overlaid the image of me over Gretchen to replace her. I then took the opacity down and removed Gretchen from the image. This was the most difficult part because she's in front of a very busy background, so erasing her hair in front of the stairs was hard. After that. it was pretty easy to complete. It was fun to toy around with the different coloring and lighting options.

Business Cards

  For my business cards, I wanted to incorporate interesting patterns and designs, but still keep the overall look clean. I did this by mirroring the colors used in my original logo designs, and kept the information side minimal, with only the logo, text, Instagram handle and bullets. The first card I went for a simple symmetrical look, with ovals mirrored on both sides. If I were to make a business card in real life I would want it to be simply black and white or soft gray and white. The second design is probably my favorite because I love the colors green and yellow, and they align with my brand messaging. I also just think the swoops look really pretty and neat. The last design I was a bit more adventurous with, and went with a fire-inpired design. Although I think it looks cool, I would not use the third design as my chosen business card because the colors are a bit harsh for a business card, I would want my business card to be symmetrical, and I would also want my card to be horiz
